The radiator fan clutch controls the drive to the mechanical cooling fan according to the engine’s cooling needs. Many vehicles use a viscous fan clutch for this purpose. It helps the fan move sufficient air through the radiator when additional cooling is required. When choosing a replacement fan clutch, make sure it is suitable for your vehicle and cooling system.
Which radiator fan clutch fits your car?
The correct fan clutch depends on your vehicle’s make, model, year and engine variant. Compare the OE reference number, dimensions and mounting connections to both the drive and the fan. Check the clutch type as well: a thermally controlled viscous fan clutch is not automatically interchangeable with an electronically controlled version. Also check whether the clutch is supplied separately or as part of a complete fan assembly.
When should you replace a radiator fan clutch?
An engine temperature that rises when driving slowly or idling may indicate a fan clutch that is not engaging sufficiently. A fan that continuously runs at high speed and produces excessive noise can also suggest a fault. Fluid leakage from the clutch or excessive play may warrant inspection. Have the cause diagnosed before replacing parts, as other cooling system problems can produce similar symptoms.
Browse the radiator fan clutches in this category and compare the product specifications to find the right replacement for your car.
